The man from Earth and 12 angry men

June 29th, 2008 — 5:08pm

Suppose a man you know from the last 10 years tells you that he has been living on this Earth for the past 14,000 years, how could you tell whether he is what he says, or whether he is a liar or he is a nut? How could you say that Science disproves it when new things are discovered all the time? How could you say he is crazy if he told you he created a new religion 2000 years back? You can reason, both for and against his claim.
Suppose a man is convicted for murder and the case is being proved by the lawyers. Can you refute the popular verdict and still pronounce the convict ‘not guilty’? Can you say that the case was proved against the convict not because of prejudices?
2 movies I watched recently: The man from Earth and 12 angry men.
How these people reason!!!
Like in the Matrix, anything is possible. It is just that we have to throw away our prejudices.

The SJCE forest

June 23rd, 2008 — 10:45am

JC is one of those places in Mysore which does not let you go easily. You enter the campus and then you feel like staying there forever. I guess in terms of greenery, it is second only to the Manasagangotri campus. Yet, there are a few empty patches within the campus where it still resembles a dry land. We just planted 60 trees at one such empty patch. The JSS horticulture director told us that we could plant anything we wanted and so we plan to make this section a forest complete with all sort of trees. However, the scale is immense. At least one or two thousand more trees are needed to fill up all the empty spaces.
More about the planting here… http://sapgreen.blogspot.com/2008/06/sjce-trees.html

Sunset

June 14th, 2008 — 8:42am

It is sometimes amazing to watch the extent of human potential. Pushing the limits over and over again. The following is not an ordinary sunset. The land below is Martian surface.
